a collaboration between e. igney of IN and b. price of GA. acoustic guitar and moog bass were recorded together, live, no click track at the old Inman Park studio. piano/keys overdubs were done in IN and other overdubs and edits were accomplished elsewhere. Rough mix dumped down to 1/4" for the sheer fun of it. It's not the final mix but I don't have the manic depression to mix this right now.

j. rhum and i got together the other day to arrange and record two songs. this is the first piece we recorded. I wrote the piano bits and jonathan then imagined the saxophone. The piano was miked with an m160 on the backside of the soundboard and the sax was recorded with an i5 into delay and guitar pedals patched into an old tube pa head into a 4x10" bass cabinet miked with an re20 and a fathead(II!). We recorded onto a 1/4" reel to reel four track, courtesy of mister bret hartley. so many thanks are in order! so, many thanks! there's no noise reduction applied to this recording. we mixed through the old yamaha mixer here at the studio, all two tracks we had laid to tape. essentially a faders up mix with a tiny bit of faux mastering. for those playing along at home the mix was captured at 24/96. this is one live take of the song. each take was moderately different and he and i agree that this is a decent one. look for the second song to be released soon.

Word: this collaboration with j.rhum a few months back in the depths of winter comes to you much later than anyone anticipated. This was a back and forth, call and response type of overdubbing. Too much, not enough, you say? I don't want to hear it. I don't need to hear it. But sit down, calm down and tell me what's bugging you. As long as it's not the mix penne. Fuck you.

Certainly it was never finished as the synthesized horn bit towards the end merely hints at the horn section I had in my head at the time. Also, I never got around to eliminate the clashing bits in that same area. Also, I could go on and on but really, I think this is a funny little piece of music. It may not reflect this in the sound of the piece but I kept hearing this old Jim Morrison record looping in the soft quiet places of my brain and head. You know, An American Prayer. Like, bit for bit, right? Holla.

So we stopped, rolled the tape machine back a few bars and punched right i...so, technically, two takes. I think the guitars are live, as is the bass and drums...perhaps even the keys. this is vacation song: laptop + a little time = this piece of sound and/or music. that's erin on the electronic key-boards. we cut that a long time ago at the old red tuxedo studio on spring street. then i compiled all the other sounds. good night. most of this was put together on vacation, at the beach. a great time.

after rehearsal last night, erin stayed late and she performed this piece. we ran as much as we could stand to through the lousy public address system that was recently acquired. it has a particular sound; it includes a shit-ton of hiss. so dig this lo-fi, um, piece.

this is taken from a recording of a DeadPan Alley show at the Star Bar in Atlanta, Ga (Little Five Points) on 7 Feb 2003. As it turns out, this was the only show we were privileged to play with Ricky - you are sorely missed. Ricky dictated that we would improv the piece and that it shall not go longer than one minute. sounds like ricky, doesn't it?

this is one of many songs that were originally composed at the outset of what became the disguise the sky album 'all things can be'. there are ten or so more songs in various states of decomposition. most of this is simply a mood piece, i suppose. a few sections are rather skeletal. enjoy.

= two days, 48 hours. the first cycle: the beat, bass, keys, guitars and vocal stacks were recorded, written, arranged, et al. second cycle: other voices, editing, more editing, more editing, sax-o-phone, hammond, holophoner and the mix were achieved. yes, there's some hard edits in there. enjoy them. kind of reminds me of the big agency up in the blue sky. let me know what you think. thank you. good bye.
oh - i should mention that the brilliant piano solo (duo) is performed by my nine month old daughter, Stella.

this is a piece way back from 1998, featuring alex lowe on flute, saxophone and music stand. it was the first time alex played on a compostition of mine. this has been kicking around for a long time, and I've finally found a place to let it out. bit of trivia: towards the end of the piece, near where the saxophone outro starts, there's a noticeable increase in the reverb on the track- while printing the mix, i forgot the reverb was muted (as i was checkign out things prior to printing) and didn't realize until the point where it starts to fade up in the mix. i decided it was a performance mix, and that's the way it should be. things change.

this is taken from a solo show i performed at the EARL in East Atlanta on 27 Dec 2005; i was opening for surlypop - a lovely - oddity of a band that seems to exist no more. the crowd is pretty quiet at tmes - they are actually listening sometimes, and that's a pretty fucking rare thing in atlanta. know what i mean?

this music represents one 24 hour cycle. instead of bandrehearsal, which would have been the last rehearsal as it turns out, i buried my head in the studio and this is what happened. this song was written, arranged, recorded and mixed within twenty-four hours. the further away from it i get, the more i appreciate this one.

this is a melding of many recorded things: sweeping, pianos, most of the instruments in my studio(although most of them were muted), historical audio from the end of jonestown. all the music at the very end of this long podcast is a completely improvised series of overdubs, without referencing the previously recorded parts. no click, even. let me know what you think of this. almost everyone mentions the children crying, for good reason.
